LUMii BLACK – what’s that all about? It’s one of the major Hydrogarden brands, but LUMii BLACK products are all relatively inexpensive compared to similar big-name products from elsewhere. So, is that the point of LUMii BLACK? That it’s bargain-priced stuff? Is that what they’re drawing attention to?
Well, no. Not really. LUMii BLACK is a great brand to choose if you’re on a budget, for sure. But that’s not the whole story. There’s a little clue in the colour.
Back in 1908 the world was a rather different place than it is now. Manufacturing was mostly done in small batch quantities or one-offs, and if you ordered any product and demanded the best quality, be it a coat, a clock, or a carriage, you knew that it would be made to your specification and that you’d have to pay handsomely for it. But in that year Henry Ford came along and changed everything.

Henry had a genius for manufacturing, and he wanted to produce motor cars. Cars that were affordable, simple, and durable. He achieved his aim using three methodologies: -
- Standardisation and rationalisation of production so that all of the cars’ components were identical and interchangeable, to achieve economies of scale.
- Using a previously unknown “production line”, where each operative always did the same assembly task on each car, and always in exactly the same way.
- Ensuring that the cars’ specifications, rather than satisfying any customer’s whims and predilections, simply produced the simplest, most reliable and cost-effective vehicle around.
Between 1908 and 1927, when production ceased, over fifteen million Model Ts were built. It is estimated that around fifty thousand of them are still running, a century later.Although what he said wasn’t entirely true (it was possible to order a Model T in other colours), Henry once famously declared of the Model T that “You can have it in any colour you want, as long as it’s black”.

The iconic LUMii BLACK 600W Electronic Ballast is one of the biggest-selling, most trusted electronic horticultural lighting ballasts in Europe. Giving outstanding, reliable performance at an affordable price, this ballast is hard to beat. Silent in operation and cool running, its electronics are soft-starting and safeguarded from power spikes by a protective thermal cut-out.
Dimmable to 250W and 400W, it also has a 600W Boost setting to give around 15% extra light output, dependent upon lamp and set-up.

LUMii BLACK Contactor Timers are a cost-effective means of scheduling multiple grow-lights to ensure the correct photoperiod for your plants. The integral contactor is designed to handle the high inductive loads of lighting ballasts and will switch the power on and off without damage to the timer which controls the unit.
Programmable in 15-minute increments, and can be set to “Timed”, “Continuously On” or “Continuously Off”.
Mains input via one 13 Amp plug lead for the 4-Way Contactor, or two 13 Amp plug leads for the 8-Way Contactor.
Power output via one 13 Amp 4-socket bar for the 4-Way Contactor, or two 13 Amp 4-socket bars for the 8-Way contactor.
